Michael Keehan Upholstery was established in 1991 in the village of O’Callaghan’s Mills in Co. Clare.
Michael’s business started off mainly in re-upholstery using the experience he acquired during a 6 year period working in some of the high end upholstery firms in London. During the following years Michael noticed that many of the sofas that customers had recovered were of questionable quality and in many cases were not worth the cost of repair.
This trend of increasingly disposable furniture inspired Michael to develop a range of quality, long lasting and comfortable sofas and chairs that were Irish made. The aim was to offer a level of quality and time honoured craftsmanship that could not be matched by larger furniture warehouses more concerned with profit than product.
We aim to achieve this goal by creating a handmade custom piece that is tailored for the individual customers needs. We start by using strong, solid beech frames that are custom built to almost any size and become the foundation of the piece. The best materials and fillings are inserted and we offer a huge range of high quality designer brand name fabrics. Matching cushions with a variety of fillings and/or footstools can be added.
